Frequently Asked Questions Answered by Our Expert Physiotherapist

Please reach us at consult@movhabilyphysiotherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Neuro Physiotherapist is a healthcare professional specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with neurological conditions. They use specialized techniques to improve movement, manage pain, and help individuals recover from conditions like stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and brain injuries. Their goal is to optimize physical function and enhance the quality of life for patients dealing with neurological impairments.

Yes, that's correct. A physiotherapist is considered a "movement specialist" because their primary focus is to assess, treat, and rehabilitate individuals by improving their physical movement and function through exercise, manual therapy, and education. They help people recover from injuries, manage pain, and maintain mobility across all stages of life.

Key points about physiotherapists as movement specialists:

  • Focus on movement: They analyze and address limitations in a patient's movement patterns, whether due to injury, illness, or disability.
  • Exercise prescription: They design personalized exercise programs to enhance strength, flexibility, coordination, and range of motion.
  • Manual therapy: Physiotherapists use hands-on techniques like soft tissue mobilization and joint manipulations to improve movement and reduce pain.
  • Holistic approach: They consider the whole body and its movement mechanics, not just the site of pain.

Yes, physiotherapy is a science-based profession. It is rooted in principles from anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and medical research. Physiotherapists use evidence-based techniques and treatment methods to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with movement dysfunctions or injuries. By applying scientific knowledge, physiotherapists aim to improve patients' mobility, relieve pain, and enhance overall quality of life.

Yes, in India, physiotherapists are recognized as first-contact healthcare practitioners, especially in musculoskeletal, neurological, and rehabilitation care.

  • They are recognized as independent practitioners under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act. This allows them to set up their own private practice and treat patients without needing a doctor's referral. However, they must be appropriately qualified and registered to legally practice physiotherapy.
  • This means you can directly consult a physiotherapist without needing a referral from a doctor. Physiotherapists are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat your condition independently to help you recover safely and effectively.

Yes, according to the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), physiotherapists in India are authorized to use the title "Dr." as a prefix and "PT" (Physiotherapist) as a suffix. This was officially announced on April 23, 2025, recognizing their professional role in healthcare.

However, it is important to understand that physiotherapists are not medical doctors (MBBS), but are specialized doctors in rehabilitation and physical therapy.

  • Yes, at Movhabily Physiotherapy℠, we specialize in natural healing through physiotherapy, without the need for surgery or medication. Our treatment approach focuses on personalized exercise programs, hands-on therapy, and rehabilitation techniques to help you recover from pain, injuries, and mobility issues effectively. Many patients have avoided surgeries and long-term medication through our evidence-based physiotherapy treatments.
  • However, this does not mean we advise you to stop any ongoing medications. As per the World Health Organization (WHO) factsheet, rehabilitation can be delivered alongside other health interventions, including medications, to achieve the best outcomes.

To gain confidence from other patients who have successfully recovered, you can visit our Testimonials page or check our Google Reviews.

Physiotherapy can have side effects, but they are usually temporary and mild. These side effects include:

  • Soreness: You might feel sore or tender in the treated area after a session. This is a natural response to the body adjusting to new physical demands.
  • Fatigue: You might feel tired after an intensive session.
  • Headaches: You might experience mild headaches, especially if you're undergoing neck or head treatments.
  • Dizziness: You might experience dizziness or lightheadedness, especially if you're doing exercises that involve balance.
  • Muscle spasms: You might experience muscle spasms or stiffness due to the new movements and exercises.

Physiotherapy treatment is generally not painful. While some techniques, like stretching or manual therapy, may cause mild discomfort, our goal is to improve your movement and reduce pain over time. Our physiotherapists always tailor treatments to your comfort level and work with you to ensure the process is manageable. If you experience any pain during treatment, please communicate with your therapist, and adjustments can be made to accommodate your needs.

Rehabilitation is important because it helps people regain their abilities and independence after an injury, illness, or disease. It can also help people manage chronic conditions, and improve their quality of life.

Rehabilitation is an essential health service that helps people with health conditions live independently and participate in their communities. It's a key component of universal health coverage. To learn more about rehabilitation, visit: About Rehabilitation.

  • A medical diagnosis identifies a disease or condition based on medical tests, symptoms, and pathology (e.g., stroke, arthritis, or herniated disc). It is typically made by a physician.
  • A movement diagnosis, made by a physiotherapist, identifies impairments in movement patterns and functional limitations caused by an injury, neurological condition, or musculoskeletal issue (e.g., movement coordination deficit, weakness, or postural dysfunction). It helps in designing a personalized rehabilitation plan to restore optimal movement and function.

While a medical diagnosis focuses on the disease, a movement diagnosis focuses on how the condition affects a person's mobility and daily activities.

Movhabily Physiotherapy℠ focuses primarily on active rehabilitation and personalized exercise programs for lasting pain relief. Passive modalities like Interferential Therapy (IFT), Short Wave Diathermy (SWD), Ultrasound Therapy (UST), and traction are only recommended when absolutely necessary to complement active treatment or facilitate recovery. Our approach emphasizes holistic care to address the root cause of pain and improve overall function.

Yes, you can do exercise without a physiotherapist’s guidance, but it is important to consider your current physical condition. If you are healthy and have no existing injuries or conditions, general exercises can be beneficial. However, if you have an injury, chronic pain, or a specific health issue, it’s recommended to seek a physiotherapist’s advice to ensure your exercise program is safe and tailored to your needs, minimizing the risk of further injury.

Yes, investing in physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation is considered valuable because it can significantly improve a person's mobility, function, and overall quality of life by addressing injuries, chronic conditions, and disabilities, often leading to reduced pain, increased independence, and a faster return to active lifestyles; making it a worthwhile investment in personal health and wellbeing.

Key points highlighting the value of physiotherapy:

  • Preventative care: Physiotherapy can help prevent future injuries by addressing imbalances and promoting proper movement patterns.
  • Pain management: Physiotherapists use various techniques to alleviate pain from musculoskeletal conditions, including manual therapy, exercises, and modalities like heat or ice.
  • Improved function: Physiotherapy aims to restore and optimize movement function, allowing individuals to perform daily activities with ease.
  • Faster recovery: For post-surgical or injury rehabilitation, physiotherapy can accelerate the healing process and promote optimal recovery.
  • Holistic approach: Physiotherapists consider the whole body and individual needs when developing treatment plans, promoting patient engagement and empowerment.
